3,461 miles to go on a Date!, and that was just one way!
Jer has been working in Alaska on a the liberty project, but we knew that it was time to look for a new job. One of his coworkers told him about a company that was hiring for off shore drilling in Brazil. Yahoo I think Brazil! I would love to go to Brazil! I would love to take my family to Brazil, yeehaw we are going to Brazil.
I know I am a little ahead of myself, but when am I not?
So Jer puts in for the job and the the HR person calls him and asks for more info. Jer e-mails him everything and then we don't hear from him again, so we chalk this one up as a lost cause. No worries he still has his job with Parker. Then as we get to the end of the hitch around the end of May the HR person calls back and wants Jer to come interview for the job in Houston, TX. He will only be in the office for a few days due to the fact that he is in the Army Reserves and he will be going to training for 40 days. So I book Jer a flight, and then I a get to thinking that if Jer gets hired I won't get to see him for a long time. (I totally did not take into account that he would need a visa!) Oh well if Jer was going to to Houston then I wanted to go too. So I started looking at flights and couldn't find a decently priced one into Houston so I was just going to chill and wait (I KNOW SO NOT LIKE ME!) Well then Jer said really why don't you come and I was thinking of ways to get there. My friend Jenny was so awesome and took my children off my hands. I booked a flight with Southwest that went from SLC to Las Vegas to Houston, landing at a different airport then Jer. So Jer flies from Prudhoe Bay, AK to Anchorage, sleeps on the floor of the airport for a few hours and then takes his favorite flight ever - the red eye from Anchorage to SLC. I came to the SLC airport to pick Jer up. We made the mistake of leaving the SLC airport (remember this it is important.) Then it was back to the SLC airport for our flights to Houston. I had my flight all over the country and Jer had a direct flight to Houston. So he landed first and got the rental car and then came to the other airport to pick me up. Easy enough right! Not when your navigation on your phone won't work. Jer did so awesome and made it from one airport to the other but not without getting stuck in traffic and having to deal with some really slow people. I was sitting in a rocking chair waiting for him, so no complaints from me. We then went to our motel room where we were just going to order pizza and go straight to bed, but the pizza places phone wouldn't work and the Internet in the room wouldn't work. I tried to call the front desk to get some help and ended up calling some random guys room. I was asking him about the Internet and asked him if he could reset the modem or something, and he informed me that I had called his room. I was so embarrassed. We finally got some food ordered, but Jer was really tired by then and I couldn't get him to eat much. The next morning he got up really early and headed to the corp office. He was there before they even unlocked the building (Why are we always late to church then?) I was going to go back to sleep, but one of my favorite qualities is that I stress for other people (so don't stress about stuff! I am already!) So no sleep I sat and stressed which turned out to be a good thing, because Jer kept texting questions that he needed help answering (like where we live and when he was born!) He had to do medical testing and drug testing. So I headed down to the pool for some swimming and sunbathing. NICE I haven't been able to chill out like that for a long time. After a LONG time Jer sent me a text and it says "MIDDLE EAST" that's it just "Middle East" no explanation no nothing. So I am trying to be a good sport and I am pretending that he is joking. I just keep sitting outside playing in the pool and sunbathing and then Jer shows up. He has gotten the job, but he is not going to Brazil, the HR person (who has never drilled a day in life!) said that the Middle East would be a better fit.
Good bye Brazil :(
Well at least he has job! Then the best part was he asked me out on a date! He wanted to take me down to Galveston to look around and get some dinner. It was so nice just the two of riding in the car (Skipping toll booths right and left! Don't worry we will pay for this later!)
I loved, Love, LOVED Galveston. Loved the old houses and the historical district. One of my favorite things about it was that it looked wind swept like all the bad stuff in life can just get swept off the island and out to sea. We drove around just looking and then found this great place to walk around, called Pier 21. It was so fun, and hot and humid! We decided to walk down and look at all the fishing boats and I was looking into the water and I saw a dolphin. I was so excited!, how often does a desert girl get to see a dolphin? We went to a restaurant called
Willie G's where we sat outside, because it was evening and it would only get cooler right?
This was our table
This was our view, watching dolphins and pelicans as the sun set.
This is what I ate Gumbo (my first time trying it), and Crab stuffed shrimp. So good!
This is the Handsome Cowboy I get to spend the rest of my life with!
The next day Jer had to go and take some physical exertion test, and then it was back on different airplanes to the same location. I flew from Houston to Austin where I stayed on the play then flew from Denver to SLC, Jer returned the rental car and flew non-stop to SLC. I was so happy that he got to come home for a bit, and felt a little silly for spending so much money to go hang out in Houston, but it was so much fun to spend time with my Jer. We got into the SLC airport late and our brains were shot. We were parked in the economy lot and to get out you just have to use the same credit card that you used to get in. We couldn't remember which credit card we had used and Jer put the parking garage ticket we had used at the beginning of our trip, so we couldn't get out. We had to go ask for help, but the lady working got all crazy! "How you get ticket for 1st, today is not 1st!", "You park in wrong place!". "Today is 3rd, why you have ticket for 1st?" I finally figured out that we had used the ticket from the 1st for the parking garage, and we should have just used my credit card. So she ran our card and we were able to head home. Jer is so nice and let me sleep while he drove, and we almost made it home without incident, but of course we had to hit a deer on the freeway near Green River. We made it home about 4 am and slept until 8. Jer went and got the kids from Jenny and Cades, because we had another adventure planned. We have since hit some bumps in the road with new job, but everything is finally falling into place, and Jer will be starting his new job on the 24th of July. He will be going to training in Houston for two weeks, and part of me wants to take the kids to visit Dad, but then I read this post and I am tired. So Jer will be on a jack up rig off the coast of Qatar. I will not be going to visit :(
